Question 2: Math Wizards

Computer wizard

Gary Nutter, Dungrydore and Permyna are lightning-fast math wizards. Gary Nutter can solve an amazing 219 math problems in 1 minute. Permyna, who is a studious girl, can solve 3 times as many math problems as Gary Nutter in 1 minute. Dungrydore, who is old and wizened, is the smartest of them all. He can solve twice as many math problems as Permyna in the same time. How many math problems in total can the 3 math wizards solve in 1 minute?

Let's Solve It!

Let's draw the bar for Gary Nutter first. I shall label his bar GN.

Next, let's draw the bar for Permyna. She can complete 3 times the number of problems as Gary Nutter in 1 minute. So let's draw her bar 3 times as long as Gary Nutter and divide it into 3 equal units.

Dungrydore can solve twice as many math problems as Permyna in 1 minute. This is how his bar would look like.

Each unit is worth 219 math problems. There are altogether 10 units - 1 for Gary Nutter, 3 for Permyna, and 6 for Dungrydore. The question asks for the total number of problems the math wizards can solve in 1 minute. Therefore, we multiply 219 by 10.

The answer is 2190. That was easy, wasn't it? Now try to solve these 3 Interactive Math Problems.
