The Pros - 31
Your children will have enough sleep.

This is one of the pros of homeschooling your children will love.

Sleep is vital for everyone and more so for growing children. The amount of sleep a person needs depends on many factors such as her age, genetic makeup and quality of sleep. Clip art: Sleeping homeschooler. Little African-American girl sleeping.

If you were to send your children to a public school, they could possibly become sleep deprived. Your children have to wake up early every morning to go to school no matter what time they went to bed the previous night. When they come back home from school, they may be busy with other activities such as busywork, music classes and sport.

So by the time they go to bed every night, it may be so late that they eventually become sleep deprived. Sleep deprivation can adversely affect the health of your children. It is so important that we have included it as part of the pros of homeschooling

To read more on the importance of sleep, how it affects your health and how much sleep your children need, you could read this excellent article - Sleeping Well.

The advantage of homeschooling your children is that they don't have to be sleep deprived because you can make their timetable flexible. If they went to bed late the night before because of some activity they had been doing, they could wake up late the next morning.

You can tailor your children's curriculum to make it the best in the world.

One of the wonderful pros of homeschooling is that you don't have to teach your children exactly what is taught in schools. You would be surprised to know that although America is the most powerful country in the world, it lags behind other developed countries in the quality of its education. Clip art: American education lags. Einstein embarrassed.

In fact, if your children were in a public school, as they move to higher grades they will fall further and further behind children from other countries. Believe it or not, the top three countries in the world are Japan, South Korea and Singapore, all from Asia.

We repeat, one of the best pros of homeschooling is that you are not stuck to our American curricula. You can add curricula from other countries to your children's education.

As the education in Singapore is in English, we have created lots of Singapore Math worksheets for you. All for Free, of course! You will find the links to the Math Worksheets on our Navigation Bar on the left. You might have to scroll up to the top of this page to find it.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 33
Your children will be safe from violence.

There is too much violence in public schools nowadays. Nearly all school children will be victimized by bullies at least once in their lives. Rape is also another problem schoolgirls have to deal with. We even have shootings in schools. Schools are no more the sanctuaries they used to be.

Some people believe that it is important for children to be exposed to violence in order to learn how to deal with it. Tell that to the parents of the victims of the Columbine High School massacre.

Part of the pros of homeschooling is that your homeschooling children will rarely have to be around children of questionable character. You can pick and choose the friends they mix with. Of course, you want them to have a happy childhood, not one of terror.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 34
Your children will not be separated from you at a tender age.

Modern culture dictates that parents have to be separated from their children for long hours at least 5 days a week. Do we really have to abide by that? Clip art: Children shouldn't be separated from their parents. Child celebrating first birthday.

Nature never intended for young children to be separated from their parents. In our society it is common for even infants to see their parents only a few hours a day. These infants are brought up by total strangers.

Is that good for our children? Certainly not! The most important people in a child's life are her parents. Children need their parents all the time. The reason why parents have to be away from their children for long stretches of time is because they have to go to work and their children have to attend school. How else are the parents going to make ends meet and how else are their children going to be educated?

If you are the part of the lucky group of parents who can stay at home and still be secure financially, then the best form of education for your children is homeschooling. One of the pros of homeschooling is that you can spend a lot of time with your kids, engage in a lot of activities together and strengthen your bonds.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 35
Your homeschooling children will have more time for sports and outdoor activities.

A large percentage of public schoolers have no time for sports or outdoor activities. They have to be at school for at least 6 hours every day and when they get back home they are made busy by busywork.

If you were homeschooling your children, you would find that they learn very fast because of the individual attention you give them. This frees up their time for other activities.

You can take them outdoors frequently as part of their education. There are many outdoor activities you could go for such as camping, canoeing and even scuba-diving if your children are old enough. You could also enroll them for sports instruction such as tennis and baseball. This will make your children physically active.

This is one of the pros of homeschooling which has attracted many parents.

The Pros - 36
You can discover your children's special talents.

Clip art: Every child is special. Toddler triplets holding hands. This is certainly one of the pros of homeschooling you might want to look into.

Each child is unique. Every child in this world has special talents and interests. Teachers in public schools have no time to identify the talents of all the children they teach.

Parents who are working full-time are too busy to notice their children's natural gifts. A child whose potential is not tapped at a young age eventually loses it when she grows into adulthood.

There are many tiny geniuses out there waiting to be found. The advantage of homeschooling your children is that since you are educating them full-time, you can notice their strengths quite easily and are in the position to develop and nurture them.

Children lose a lot of their potential after the age of 6. The best thing you could do for your children is to expose them to as many activities as possible from the time they are born. You will soon discover their interests and talents. Then all you have to do is to send them for the relevant classes to develop their natural gifts.

This is one of the strongest pros of homeschooling. Many prodigies have been discovered through homeschooling.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 37
Your children will be better behaved.

Clip art: Homeschoolers don't become gangsters. Cigar-smoking mobster with gun. One of the pros of homeschooling is that your children will not have any negative role models. Children are too young to differentiate right from wrong. That is why too many children go down the wrong path, especially when it seems so cool.

Your children will not have any negative influences - they won't be fooled by their peers into thinking that taking drugs is wonderful or that being part of a gang is cool.

The advantage of homeschooling is that you can constantly monitor your children's behavior. You can correct them immediately when they misbehave. You can teach them the proper values and mold their characters.

That is why as a rule homeschoolers are better behaved than their public schooling counterparts.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 38
Your children will always be receiving love.

This is another one of the important pros of homeschooling. Clip art: Sad public school child. Lonely and miserable African-American girl at playground.

Not all children who go to public schools are happy with their social lives. Many are rejected or tormented by their peers because they are different.

Teachers can't be expected to spend much time with each child individually. Therefore, many children feel unloved, lonely and depressed; some even suicidal.

Who will love these children? Of course their parents - unless their parents are mentally deranged.

Homeschoolers don't have to worry about being unloved because they are with their parents all or most of the time. Their parents are committed to being with them because they love them. Therefore, they will shower their children with lots of love.

Their children will have a happy childhood, feeling secure that there is always someone they can go to for love and comfort. They will grow up into well-adjusted adults who won't have any neuroses.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 39
You can teach your children how to choose their friends.

Sending your children to a public school is no guarantee that they will pick up good behavior.

Sadly, there are many badly brought up children in public schools. Children, unless they have been carefully taught by their parents, will have no idea how to choose their friends. They just want to fit in with the crowd. They could pick up bad habits and behavior as a result.

Clip art: Public school monsters. Medusa and minotaur having tug-of-war over knight.

Parents who send their children to public schools also have no way of knowing who their children are mixing with. When I was a teenager, I saw a perfectly good boy turn into a gangster all because he thought being part of a gang was cool. His parents never knew what was happening to their son. His story is too common all over the world.

One of the pros of homeschooling is that you are with your children most of the time. Therefore, you have the chance to teach them how to choose their friends. You could explain to them what qualities they should look for in their friends.

You could also observe their friends to see if they are really a good influence to your children. It is really important for it plays a huge part in their growing up.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 40
Your children will know how to interact with adults.

Many people are under the mistaken assumption that homeschoolers have no social skills and they are extremely shy. These people believe that homeschoolers also don't know how to interact with adults.

Public schoolers see a lot of adults especially in the form of teachers. However, they don't view them as friends. They would rather form friendships with those of their own age. Clip art: Homeschoolers mix with adults. Old man in wheelchair. Elderly person.

Homeschoolers, on the other hand, don't have this preconception that adults shouldn't be their friends. A homeschooler who has been raised properly will be able to form relationships with everyone, no matter what their age.

If you were to observe homeschoolers, you would notice that they would be able to strike up an engaging conversation with an 80-year-old grandfather or a 40-year-old mechanic.

This pro of homeschooling is due to the fact that homeschoolers are not forced to sit for 6 hours a day, year in, year out with those who are only of their age. Homeschoolers are not enclosed in artificial environments. They get to mix with everyone.
