Homeschooling makes your time more flexible.

One of the reasons why homeschooling is good is because you are freed from public school schedule.

Public schools constrains the timetables and activities of your family. Before you decide to do anything, you have to take your children's school timetable into consideration. Your children are stuck on weekdays and you can only plan any trips on weekends and school holidays.

This is very frustrating if you want to see more of your children or if you are the kind of family that loves to go for family trips often.

One of the popular reasons for homeschooling is that you can do anything you want with your time. You can make your children's study timetable fit your family schedule. You can enroll your children for music classes or tennis classes and arrange their study time around these classes.

For example, if your children's tennis classes are on Monday mornings you might teach them Geography and History in the afternoons. If they have swimming classes on Wednesday afternoons, you could teach them Math in the mornings.

You could spend a whole week on a fun trip to California and do catch-up work on the following week. You could take your children on educational trips on weekdays and teach them on weekends.

This is one of the most appealing reasons for homeschooling.

You can teach your children life skills.

Another good reason for homeschooling is that you can teach the life skills your children will need when they grow up.

Life skills according to UNICEF are Communication and Interpersonal Skills, Decision-Making and Critical Thinking Skills, and Coping and Self-Management Skills. If you would like to visit their excellent website and learn more about life skills, please click UNICEF Life Skills. Clip art: Learning Life Skills. By reading up on life skills, you will know what knowledge you child needs to succeed in life. Then you can incorporate the teaching of life skills into your lesson plans. By being with your children 24/7, you are the best person to know their weaknesses. You can then teach them the necessary life skills to overcome their faults.

There are also life skills curricula for sale if you are interested in purchasing them. We are in the process of reviewing some curricula. We hope to introduce you to the best programs once we have finished our reviews.

Homeschoolers learn family values.

What is a strong family?

Firstly, the parents have to be close to each other - they communicate openly and their children can clearly see that they love each other. The parents are not only committed to each other but also to the raising of their children. They are excellent role models for their children. They teach their children the importance of caring and empathy.

The family spends a lot of time together. Family time is fun and joyful and everyone participates wholeheartedly in family activities.

Each member of the family is not afraid of expressing his or her individuality and ideas. And they are respectful of others who are different or see things differently. If there are any disagreements, they are settled amicably and without rancor. No one hurts others out of spite.

Generosity, responsibility, selflessness, cohesion and mutual understanding are some of the important traits of a healthy family.

One of the reasons for homeschooling is the opportunity for the family to be closer and for the parents to teach their children family values. A child who comes from a close family will be happy, confident and well-adjusted.

Slow learners will not be left out.

If you feel that your child is a slow learner, public school may not be suitable for her. Teachers in public schools won't have the time to slow down and give her the attention she needs to catch up - they have to finish the curriculum within the time period given to them. Clip art: Slow Learner. Female caucasian student at school desk.

If you were to homeschool your child, you will have all the time to slow down if she doesn't understand a topic. You can explain in detail and give her more questions and exercises to do until she finally grasps the topic.

However, you don't have to worry that your child will be left behind. The individual attention you give her will eventually cause her to become smarter. Don't be surprised if your child overtakes her peers in public schools. That is the power of individual attention.

One of the reasons for homeschooling is the need to give more attention to slow learners. However, "slow" is only temporary.

Your gifted child will flourish.

Clip art: Gifted Singer. Pretty female country singer. Among the reasons for homeschooling is the need to successfully raise a talented child.

If your child is gifted, then the only way for your child to reach her full potential is to be homeschooled. Public schools still don't have a proper program to accomodate all gifted children.

There are so many ways for a child to be gifted, Some children are gifted at playing a musical instrument, some in sports, some in dancing, some in painting, some in singing, some in math, some in writing - there are endless talents. You know your children best.

If your child is truly gifted in something, your child would be wasting her time in a public school - at least 6 hours a day - when she could be developing her gift. A large number of gifted children are homeschooled. Since gifted children are also usually academically intelligent, they learn faster. Therefore, they will find classes in public schools too slow for them. You can teach them the same thing at home quickly. This frees up their time to develop their special talents.

This is one of the popular reasons for homeschooling.

Special needs children will receive the best education.

Clip art: Special Needs Child. Disabled child wearing glasses - in wheelchair. It is not easy to educate a special needs child. In fact the task could be daunting. However, it is not impossible for parents to acquire the knowledge to educate them.

One of the reasons for homeschooling is that you can teach your child full-time. Special needs children need a lot of time to learn. By devoting much of your time to your special needs child, you will ensure that they eventually learn how to live independently in this world. That is well worth your effort.

However, it is best that you consult a psychologist or psychiatrist before you decide to homeschool your child. If you are determined to acquire the knowledge required to teach your child, and if you want to devote your time to teaching her, and if you can strictly follow the advice of a professional, then you will certainly succeed.

It is very difficult and it can be frustrating, especially when you don't seem to make any progress. However, don't give up. Read lots of books, seek the advice of professionals and always ask yourself where you are going wrong and how you can improve your teaching methods.

There are many teaching methods available. However the best, head and shoulders above the rest, is Discrete Trial Teaching (DTT). It has been proven time and again to work on special needs children. We will be discussing DTT elsewhere in our webpages on special needs children.

Among the best reasons for homeschooling is is the need to educate special needs children.

You can take field trips whenever you want to.

This is a wonderful pro of homeschooling.

Most children hate to sit in one place for hours and listen to an adult droning on and on. Your children don't have to be bored.

You can supplement your lessons with educational field trips that are fun for your children. If you are teaching history or archaeology, you can bring your children to a museum. You can make trips to the zoo to learn about animals. You can go snorkeling if you want your children to study marine life. You can go camping and show your children what nature is like.

The world is an educational playground. There is so much to learn and discover. Your children will love their education.

There are so many splendid reasons for homeschooling and this is one of them.

Homeschooling children learn in a natural environment.

One of the special reasons for homeschooling is that your children will learn in a natural environment.

Schools are artificial environments created to mass educate children. They are good in that all children have equal access to education and have the opportunity to better themselves and improve their lives. A child whose parents are poor is not doomed to poverty but has the chance to escape its clutches through education.

However, public schools are not the best form of education. Each child is unique, has special talents and weaknesses. Our public schools work like factories in that they attempt to mass produce minds. The disadvantage of this method is that a great many children are failures, not only academically but socially.

Clip art: Children Learn By Observation. African-American Gene DNA scientist.

Children naturally learn through exploration, observation, experimentation and modeling. Homeschooling is the perfect medium for young minds.

You can guide your children in a way that fosters their natural curiosity rather than killing it. Instead of forcing them to sit for hours to learn their lessons, you can create many activities which will spark their interest.

Homeschooling doesn't have to be public schooling done at home. It should be as special as your children.

There are still many reasons for homeschooling. Let's go to the next one.

Pros and Cons of Homeschooling
The Pros - 29
Your children can explore further those topics that interest them.

In public schools teachers only teach what is in the syllabus, nothing more, nothing less. We can't blame them. They have to finish their syllabus within a certain period of time.

One big advantage of homeschooling is that you can go in any direction you want. Of course, we recommend that you still teach what is taught at public schools. Clip art: Egyptian Mythology. Mummy outside pyramid.

However, if you find that your child is interested in Egyptian mythology or the French Revolution, you can spend more time on those topics to allow your child to go deeper into it.

You can teach them how to do research on the topics or you can go on field trips. You can also buy books for her to read or bring her to the library. By delving deeper together, you will have lots of fun with your child.

We still have more reasons for homeschooling. You will never wonder again why homeschooling is so popular.

You will have more family time.

One of the reasons for homeschooling is that you will get to spend more time with your children and forge a happy family.

Most families in our modern society don't function as families. There is just no time. Parents have full-time jobs to make ends meet. Children have to go to school. It's a miracle for some families to even get together for an hour a day.

That is why many parents are opting for homeschooling. They want to have the feeling of togetherness. Children who rarely see their parents and siblings will eventually drift away and form relationships outside the family to fill their emotional void.

Friends are certainly important. However, most friendships are just temporary and are easily lost, broken or forgotten. In the long run, it is the family bond that is important. If you show your children how much they mean to you by being with them often and sharing your life fully with them, their hearts will always be with you.

When you homeschool your children you can have lots of family time. You can use this time to strengthen your family bonds.
