Last Friday, Barry Bear was tired after completing two hundred Singapore math worksheets. So he went to sleep and had a dream. He dreamed that he was caught by a vicious dragon and imprisoned in a cell with 9 chickens and goats. The dragon wanted to make a meal out of them. Barry bear was bored so he counted the total number of chicken and goat legs in the small cell. There were altogether 24 legs. How many bleating goats were in the cell?

However, 10 of the cowardly chickens ran away from home on the first day saying that Singapore math was too tough for them. On the 2nd day, 3 chickens ran away. The same number of chickens ran away on the 3rd day and every day after that. By which day had 31 chickens disappeared?

Sally and Melanie were hardworking girls who aced their Singapore math test. Their delighted mother told them that they could play outside. The girls brought their nets with them to the garden to catch some dragonflies. At the end of the day, the happy girls had caught altogether 78 dragonflies. If Sally had caught 6 fewer dragonflies than Melanie, how many dragonflies did Melanie catch?

Fred's silly dad gave him a large number of soccer balls for his birthday. Fred practiced with his balls every day for one week. At the end of the week, he found that he had lost 37 balls. He cried so miserably that his mother took pity on him and bought 14 balls for him. If Fred had 62 balls in the end, how many balls did his coach give him?

Farmer Brad Baldy smeared some honey on his bald head to entice Bessie the cute cow to lick it. Why? To grow his hair back on his bald head, of course. By the end of January, some strands of hair had actually sprouted on his head. At the end of February, 23 strands of hair had dropped from his head. In March, he made Bessie work doubly hard and 47 new strands of hair grew on his head. In fact, there were 85 strands of hair in total on his head sticking out like a horse's tail. How many strands of hair grew in January? Don't count those that grew from his ears.

Kitty Kat ate 5 more goldfish than Bitty Kat. If Bitty Kat and Ditty Kat gulped down the same number of fish, how many fish did Kitty Kat devour?

Sara, Tara and Vera were sisters and triplets on top of that. On their 14th birthday, they screamed in horror when they looked into the mirror. Their faces were full of pimples. They counted all their pimples and found that their combined total was a whopping 72 pimples. Sara had 9 fewer pimples than Tara. If Sara and Vera had the same number of pimples, how many pimples did Tara have?

Cowboy Chester was riding his horse to Singapore to take part in a Singapore math competition. Along the way, he was surrounded by some wicked highway robbers. What was the number of robbers? It was between 50 and 60. It was also an odd number and the sum of the digits was 10. He shot them all, by the way.

When I opened my bathroom door I was surprised to see a large number of ducks doing their Singapore math homework in my bathtub. How many ducks were there? Let's see. It was an even number between 70 and 80. The sum of the digits was 13.

I have three dirty dogs in my house. Their names are Bark, Howl and Yodel. Bark has 24 fleas on her nose. Howl has 18 more fleas than Bark snuggled in her tail. Yodel has 13 fewer fleas than Bark hanging from her belly. How many happy fleas do the dogs have altogether?

Darren Dog was a florist in Muttland. When he opened his shop on Valentine's Day, he had 17 blue roses, 36 yellow roses and 25 red roses. Unluckily, an armed robber entered his shop toting a shotgun. Darren Dog ran out of the shop terrified. Darren came back later accompanied by his burly Singapore math teacher. They found that there were only 29 roses left. How many roses did the robber steal?

I had a wonderful dream last night. The fairies were having a party in a field. I counted 34 fairies, 16 nymphs and 25 centaurs. I joined them and had a great time. How many had gone back home to do their math homework?

Merpione gave Hairy Goiter magical chocolate bars that could make him sprout wings and fly like a bird. He wouldn't need his dumb-looking broomstick after all. When Hairy's friends heard about these magical chocolate bars, they too wanted some. So Hairy reluctantly gave 29 of them away. Merpione saw Hairy crying the next day and gave him 53 magical chocolate bars out of pity. If Hairy Goiter had 74 of these special magical chocolate bars in the end, how many did he have in the beginning?
